The figure-head
For hundreds of centuries sailors have always aspired to embellish the prow of their ships. Religion and superstition, desire and need to personify the ship along with artistic purposes, are the reasons for these charming sculptures. The figure-heads of the ships that are still sailing nowadays, inspired by traditional models, mythical figures, figures of history, figures of women, embody the spirit of the ship and they contribute to form its identity and personality. The figure-head of “Signora del Vento“ is a work of art accomplished by the renowned artists Birgit and Claus Hartmann. A great result of a careful iconographic research through ancient texts and an extremely skilful carving made from selected finest woods from the North Sea. The figure-head represents the “Signora del Vento” expressing her unique and distinctive character.
